Our Reading Cadet Corps have applied to the Evening Post "Make it Happen" giveaway. We have requested funding for a set of uniforms for the full Corps of 25 Members to give a more uniformed look than the current white tee shirts and dark trousers.
Reading Cadets to perform at Caversham Festival. As at 06/09/05
Reading Cadets will be performing at The "Caversham Festival" on Saturday 10th September. The event which is held at the recreation ground, Westfield Road, Caversham has run for several years, and has proved to be very popular with the local people. This will be the first year that our Corps have taken part.
Cadets in Exhibition at Aldershot.
As at 21/06/05
Both our Cadet Corps did fantastic at Aldershot as they performed in Exhibition for their first time this season.
The Reading Cadets performed first and entertained the audience with "Fly Me To The Moon" & "I get a Kick out of You".
The Guildford Cadets opened their show with Balamory and continued their theme of Kids TV shows with "Rainbow" drum break and closed with "The Simpsons".
Well done to all the Members & Staff!
Main Corps decide not to compete during 2005.
As at 14/06/05
It is with great regret that Cadence Online have to report that the Main Corps is no longer active. Due to a shortage of Members the Staff have decided to cease production of the Main Corps show for 2005. The Cadence organisation is however very much alive and working with its two Cadet Corps. Both Cadet units will be performing in exhibition at The DCUK Aldershot show on Sunday 19th June 2005.
As at 24/11/04
With rehearsals already underway for the 2005 season, next year is looking like an exciting year for Cadence.
The brass have already made a start on the 2005 show music, and the battery are looking the healthiest they have been number wise for this time, for a number of years.
The pit will begin rehearsing in the New Year, and the Guard don’t come back till after WGUK Finals where Cadence are represented in Mayflower, Southern Knights, and Pride of Bristol. Good luck to all the Cadence members competing in WGUK.
We will be competing in DCE in 2005 as well as
DCUK, and we will be travelling to

2003 finals seems like a long time a go now and after a very hardworking year, there were a lot of disappointed people. We had what seemed a very long two month break between finals and the first practice but it was very welcome.
Everyone involved with the corps needed to refresh their batteries as we were all well and truly drained! However at the first practice back, we found out what the 2004 show was going to be and everyone seemed to want to get back to it with the goal of topping what we achieved in 2003.
In the close season the decisions were made to change how we do things visually, and we have already done a lot of work on posture. We have broken every single move down into a series of checkpoints so that everybody knows exactly where their feet, hands and head should be. The benefits of having these checkpoints are starting to show already and by the summer we should look like a different corps to 2003.
The pit percussion are the biggest they have ever been at this stage in the season. In 2003 we started with one member and ended up with five. This year
we already have 5 with the introduction of some experienced members so the new equipment purchased in 2003 will get a thorough work out this year.
The brass have made steady progress since November. The slow piece 'Nimrod' was completed before Christmas and already sounds that its going to be a Cadence classic and a crowd favourite this year. The opener 'In the spring when kings go off to war' is a change of direction from 2003 but the brass line have got to grips with the strange time signatures and are enjoying the pace of the piece which reaches 190 beats per minute.
The 2002 and 2003 show both started with a slow build up so it's a nice change to have a powerful and fast opener.
For the first time in at least 4 years we have all the drum line from the previous year! With a great 2003 finals behind their belts, the drumline are looking to push even harder in 2004. They learned the first 40 bars of the opener at the first practice of 2004 and put this together with the brass and the results were impressive. The already powerful sound from the brass line was maximised by the drum score and with no obvious problems, it seems the arrangers
have got it right.
The guard have not practised so far as they are all involved in various winter guards (Pride, Southern Knights). Well done to Amy who has got into Boston for 2004 and Div who has got into Vanguard for 2004. Everyone at Cadence wished them the best of luck.
Cadence take Runners-Up at 2003 Finals
Oct 11 2003
Cadence finished the season with a spectacular performance of "Chiaroscuro" which left everyone associated with Cadence feeling mighty proud of the achievments of the Members & Staff who had all given 110% in the push for the title.
There was an enormous "family feeling" amongst the Corps this season, and none more so than during Finals Camp. With our 5 age-outs giving some very emotional speeches the night before prelims made it very clear to all who were present that "Winning is not everything". The real gift of Drum Corps is the friendships that grow within the Corps. Congratulations to The Senators who took their 5th title.
Less than a point at Aldershot.July 7th 2003 The gap between Cadence &
Senators has narrowed to within a point, the closest these Corps have been
this season. The spread with Encore has now opened up to 6
points.
1st Senators 71.7
2nd Cadence 70.9
3rd Encore
64.4
4th Poynton 60.3
5th Statesmen
53.0
As there is only one more show remaining in this 1st
half of the season, we look forward to a very interesting showdown at
Grantham on the 20th July.
New Member of the Brass Staff June 20th 2003
At the first show of 2003 in Aldershot, Cadence were lucky enough to attract the attention of two Americans who happened to be in the stand for their first DCUK experience. After our performance they came over and said they used to march with Phantom Regiment and they were very impressed with our 2003 show. Kevin Nielsen was one of those guys and as it turned out he currently lives in London, and after some gentle persuasion from fellow Phantom Regiment alumni and Cadence Brass arranger Richard Coulter he agreed to join the Brass Staff for 2003. Everyone in the Cadence Organisation welcomes Kevin and we all hope he enjoys his time
with us. Here is an interview with Kevin:
Where are you from originally?
A small town outside of Detroit called
Woodhaven, MI
What are you doing in the UK?
Right now
I'm teaching history at a secondary school. Moving here just sounded like
something different.
When did you first get involved with drum
corps?
Well my first show was 1993 Preview of Champions, after
that I knew I had to march, and I marched Glassmen in 1994
What is your main instrument?
Well
originally, I'm a trumpet player, and I marched soprano at Glassmen, but
then I switched to Contrabass and then Euphonium
What corps have you marched for and which
years?
I marched Glassmen in 94 and 95. Then I couldn't afford
to march for a couple of years. And then I marched with the Phantom
Regiment from 98-00
What were your first impressions of DCUK at
Aldershot?
I actually didn't know what to expect, but I would
compare it with a higher quality division 3 corps back in the states.
Why did you decide to get involved with
Cadence?
I think it was because of the music that they play. The
repertoire is very emotional and powerful.
How did you find your first practice with Cadence?Generally, the corps works very hard, and more importantly has fun doing it. For the little time that they rehearse, I saw vast improvements over the day.
What do you hope you can bring to Cadence this
year?
I'm hoping to just be able to give a few pointers that I
have learned over the years when I marched, also I'm another set of eyes
watching for problems. Not much difference separates the "cream of the
crop" with the other corps, and I hope to be able to help give the corps
little nuances to achieve what they
want.
DCUK Show Aldershot June 1st 2003
Cadence started the 2003 season with a stunning opening performance at Aldershot with a program which was far more ready than I have ever known us to be!
The Guard and
Brass took top spot in their captions, with Percussion and visual both in
2nd place. The Senators took 1st place with a score of 60.9 - Cadence 2nd

I trust that all is going well with you and the corps. I just wanted to say
hello. The music as well as the drill charts look and sound great. I'm
looking forward to September when we can try and create a new "meat grinder."

Firstly on the guard/visual staff we have Bridget Coulter and Steve Fowler.
The Drumline are very happy to announce that both Gary Powell and Geoff Fry whom I'm sure don't need any introduction will be working with the corps this year.
We can also confirm that Jeff Wroblewski ex visual designer of Star of Indiana who came over last September will not only be coming back again this year, but will also be assisting with the writing of this years visual show.
The Brass have no new additions to the staff but have exactly the same line up as 1999 . We are attempting an extremely difficult book this year of which we are very confident that with the calibre of our members and staff we will be able to pull it off.
"SYMPHONIC VOICES" our Y2K PROGRAM is well underway with the brass having learnt about 6 minutes of the show with the drums and pit close behind.
Our first camp of the season will be on February 5th & 6th at Meonstoke, Hants . We are aiming to have the brass completing 90% of the show with the first half of the show completed musically by all sections.
If anybody would like any further information about the corps then email Dave Champion or John Barclay our addresses are on our staff list .
What a BLAST!

We lost out 20 points on display and showmanship and drill & deportment combined and finished on 704 points which was just 12 points behind The Knights. Just behind us in 3rd place were the 37th Kingswood who we met for the first time and we look forward to meeting once again in two weeks time.

There is now just 4.5 points seperating the top three highest scoring Corps. With Cadence just 3.4 behind Southern Aurora. The Cadence staff believe that the program now has the potential to be a championship winning show, and it's now down to serious hard work to clean it up and give it that "Magic touch" to prepare for Finals. With Jeff Wroblewski poised to make the trip over for finals week, we look set to be making every effort in our push for finals.

The 2002 show "To the Heart of the Ocean" has been received by the Members with enormous enthusiasm. Rehearsals have been very well attended with all sections near to being full. The camp at Bristol last weekend saw the Brass complete 4 mins with the persussion not far behind. The Guard have completed their Winterguard show and are looking forward to a succesful Winterguard Season.
The Corps is looking very healthy with 18 Brass, 4
Snares, 2 tenors 3 bases and 7 pit. The Winterguard is full with 10 Guard.
Anyone interested in the few remaining spots should contact us ASAP
As at 18 Sept
We have today received the sad news from The Bonney family that Freda has died. Most of you will have known her as "Paul & Darren's Nan" or perhaps "Elaine & Sue's Mum".
Freda has always been an active Cadence supporter and will be missed by us all in The Cadence family. Our thoughts are with all of the Bonney family at this time.
Just 2 points behind!
With just 1 week left to the DCUK spectacle of the year Cadence are just 2 points away from the top spot. This is the closest the Corps has ever been at this time of the year including 1999 when we took the title.
Rehearsals are going well, as the Members & Staff "pull out all the stops" to clean the very demanding show. Last Sunday's rehearsal was said to have been the best rehearsal this year by many of the Instructional staff as commitment levels reach an all time high.
The first show at Leicester this year was the hottest day of the year so far, with retreat being cancelled due to the extreme heat.
The competition on the field was also HOT as
Senators once again took the top spot with Cadence just 4 points behind!
Kidsgrove were placed 3rd with a close battle for fourth place between
Encore (4th) Sunrisers (5th) North Star (6th) and Poynton (7th) with just
3.5 points between them! 6th Hove and Northern Star were not far
behind in 8th and 9th
The next show is also at Leicester
on
Sunday 8th July... Could it
be even hotter? Request a seat on the bus.
The long trip to Warrington meant leaving Reading at 6am -
Quite a shock to the system!
Only Tony (official Corps photographer) overslept and
missed the bus!
With all
Corps pleased to have got the first show over with, it was apparent that a
season of close competition was underway. Members & staff are full of
enthusiasm and talking
about DCUK Leicester on Sunday 24 June...
Bring it on!! Request a seat on the bus.
The arrival of Jeff Wroblewski for our three day camp added that extra "touch of magic" to our program which was already showing great potential. Everyone worked so hard over the weekend in such blistering heat it was no wonder we had a few casualties (with the exception of the accident in the pub on Sunday night)! It was nice to have several DCUK Judges in attendance to offer their pre-season thoughts on the program, which many feel is the strongest program they have seen from us!
32 Sets of Drill Learnt, marched & played in one
afternoon. Thanks to all the Members & Staff for such great effort all day! It's amazing how much you can get done without the distraction of the Bombshell! Looking forward to the Easter Camp.
Congratulations to all the Members & Staff of The Cadence Winterguard. Our show expressed massive emotion with equipment work which was performed to the very highest standards. The show was well thaught out and kept the attention of the audience at all times. The improvement made by our Guard over the Winter is clear to see. The Guard is now at an all time high and I look forward to seeing Cadence field the strongest Guard in our history during the 2001 Corps season.
Congratulations to all the Members & Staff of The Cadence Winterguard. We aceived a very creditable 5th place. I hear the show was superb, and many more high opinions have been voiced over the net.
The 2001 season is well underway with approx. 3/4 of the Brass book learnt, percussion have approx. 3 mins and the Guard are enjoying their best season of Winterguard to date.
Numbers in all sections are healthy with new members turning up every week. If you're interested get in touch now
Congratulations to all the Members & Staff at The Senators and thanks for giving us a most memorable season. Despite the Cadence victory at pre-lims and our performance exceeding even our expectations you took the title. I have to say that the friendly rivalry that exists (and I hope will continue) between our two Corps is a credit to the Members & Staff of our respective units. Very well done and we look forward to seeking revenge next year!
Congratulations to Jeff & Krista on the birth of Jeffery Alec Wroblewski (Alec) born 18th September 2000 6 pounds 15 oz 20 inches.
We look forward to seeing some pictures in the future and wish them all the very best!
Cadence closed the gap with the undefeated Senators at the first show of the second half of the season. Since Leicester we have changed in excess of 80 sets and the show was inevitably rather dirty, so to be just 2.6 behind Senators is very encouraging for the Staff & Members who remain confident of retaining the title in October.
Cadence tied with Southern Aurora as Senators took the top spot with a very clean performance. Being the last DCUK show for the first half of the season the stage is certainly set for a very close second half. With several additional members due to be added for the second half as well as having so many "special momments" to be added to the show, the staff and members are confident of retaining the title in October.
Cadence spent a busy weekend in the west country, which incorporated two BYBA shows. On Saturday the Corps placed 2nd just behind Southern Aurora, but made amends at Bristol on the Sunday by winning the show (taking all captions excluding turnout) and leaving Southern Aurora 15 points behind in 2nd place. The usual hospitality at Wells was enjoyed by all on Saturday evening and the Corps wishes to thank all concerned for such a great weekend.
Cadence made a very possitive start to the 2000 Drum Corps season by taking 1st place. Southern Aurora were in 2nd place very close behind, it promises to be an exciting season.

Congratulations to Mandy (Bear) & Paul (Nobby) Newman on the birth of their Son (1st child).
Benjamin Newman was born at 7:30pm on Saturday 1st April weighing 8 and a half pounds. Mother and baby are well, and Grandad is mighty proud!
We look forward to seeing him at his 1st rehearsal!

Our first rehearsal outdoors at Pirbright was a great success, with just 1 member missing due to illness, and one unable to attend! (we miss you Kev).
After the last indoor camp last weekend, the Members were really looking forward to getting outside and fortunately the weather was fairly kind for March!
We managed to learn 35 sets which gets the drill off to a flying start.
It was also refreshing to hear the music outdoors for the first time.
Latest News
As at 26/01/00
We would like to officially welcome 4 new staff members to the corps.
Bridget and Steve have been around the circuit for many years and have been very successful both in Winterguard and the summer season.
This will be our first visit back to Meonstoke for a couple of years and I'm sure Janet the landlady of our local "The Queens Head" there will be pleased to hear that we are back. She tells us that the weekends that we are there are her busiest of the year. Once we finish rehearsal at 9pm it's a mad dash to the pub for some serious drinking and partying which goes on till she can eventually get us out.
Cadence visited Hamersmith Apollo Thursday evening to see the first performance of BLAST!
Everyone who went was amazed by the performance which started with Ravel's Bolero and continued for 2 hours! The performance included Appalachian Spring, Medea, Slava, Land of Make Believe and finished with a massive Malaguena. The whole show was just incredible, with the Worlds premier Drum Corps Performers in Brass, Percussion and Guard. We can't wait for our next visit in January, and I think many who were there last night will be going back for more before then!
At Sixfields stadium, Northampton, Cadence earnt the Honour of being crowned the 1999 British Drum Corps Champions. After winning the morning Prelims show by less than half a point the evening show was ahead by 1.8 points. Congratulations to all our Marching Members, Instructional Staff, Support Staff and all our loyal supporters who have all waited for so long for that "Magic momment".
Thanks to all the other competing Corps who made us work so hard and made this season so competetive and exciting, particularly all Corps Members who offered their Congratulations to our Members on the field or afterwards in the Carpark, your sportmanship made the occasion even more memorable.

Cadence "Force of Destiny" show took The No. 1 spot with a score of 848 points. In 2nd place 37th Kingswood were just 2 points ahead of Staffordshire Knights with 806 points.
The spread of 40 points was well deserved with a show which had so many changes from the previous show at Leicester, and was performed so well after a very wet days rehearsal.
Thanks to all the Staff over this week end, particularly Jeff Wroblewski, Dale Rolfson, Geoff Fry and Gary Powell for your extra input. Roll on Finals.... "Raise the roof"
Cadence were just 1.2 points behind Black Knights at Leicester, with what was a typical 'morning show' which we know we can dramatically improve on during the final two weeks of the DCUK season. With the assistance of Jeff Wroblewski and the other 'Staff Imports' from Indiana the show will improve in leaps and bounds as we head towards Finals day.
This week, Cadence will welcome back Jeff Wroblewski and his team of 6 from Indiana. Jeff teaches Drum Corps and Marching Bands across the US on a full time basis. His knowledge of design and instructing Drum Corps is vast, and he has written and taught for Star of Indiana for many years including their World Championship title year. Also with Jeff are Ex-marching members of Star of Indiana and a DCM Judge. They will be with us for the next 2 weekends and I'm sure will add great momentum to our push for both the British Titles.
Our first show of the second half leaves us tied with The Senators on a score of 76.4 which was just behind The Black Knights on 78.4
We placed 2nd in Brass and Percussion by small margins, and won visual by 3 tenths. The Guard placed 3rd. Our Overall effect was joint 2nd with Senators. Overall a very encouraging start to the second half.
The Corps spent a most enjoyable bank holiday weekend in Warwickshire. All Members and staff worked hard to bring the show to a new level, ready for Tottenham. During the weekend the Corps performed six shows at The Town & Country Festival at Stoneleigh where the Organisers and Crowd were amazed by our performances. Our thanks to Keith and all the crowd at Pheonix Drum & Bugle Corps in Coventry for our accomodation and the night out!
Congratulations to Our Lead soprano Carlos "The Big Show" Benn and Tracey our aged-out bass drummer on the birth of their daughter Erin. Mother & daughter reported to be well, and hoping to make it to the Barbecue this week-end!... We look forward to it!!
Cadence maintained the pressure on Senators and opened the spread over Black Knights at The DCUK show at Leicester. With all open class Corps in attendance it really was the showdown to the first half of the season.
Cadence enjoyed a very succesful weekend in the West Country, and came away from both contests as Premier Class champions and no less than 12 trophies!
Saturdays show was not at the standard the Staff were expecting. However after an excellent rehearsal on Sunday morning to fix some minor errors the Corps took the field and pulled off a storming performance to take first place with 777 points (the highest score in Premier class this year).
